Cloud Changes

Here is a list of things that will change when your website moves to our new cloud platform.

Here is a list of things that will change when your website moves to the cloud. Be sure to contact us if you have any questions about the move.

Location

The physical location of your site and VPS will be closer to you. Customers will have hosting in the nearest data center to their company/own location. If you have a global presence it’s also possible to set up VPS in multiple locations and route users according to location.

Click here for a list of all current data centers and options.

Cloudflare

Domain name DNS will be routed through Cloudflare for added security and bot-stopping measures. They also have tools for speeding websites up considerably.

Server Email Sending

Currently, we set up SMTP accounts on each hosting account for sending emails through your website. SMTP is quite reliable but unfortunately, emails sent can end up in spam folders too easily or not being delivered at all. If your domain or mail server is blacklisted, the emails from your contact forms/order forms/online store are not arriving which can cause problems.

We have addressed this by using the service Mailgun on all sites moved to the cloud so that emails get where they need to go.

Another added benefit is that Mailgun tracks possible spam sent from your site, so we can pick up on any malicious software sending emails through your website.

Server Email Boxes

On our new cloud hosting, we do not host email. For the past six years, we have been recommending Google Workspace (formerly G Suite/ G Apps) and do not recommend server boxes. This allows for secure emails and more secure servers. If you currently have server boxes we will help you move the accounts to Google Workspace.

Reporting

Speed testing is going to be a big part of the transfer process as it’s the clearest way to show how the transfer has improved loading times and the quality of your hosting.

The use of Cloudflare and Mailgun allows us to integrate with those services and get the real-time status of your site. Our monthly reporting will include data from all of these services and your own server so you can see at a glance the health of your website and server.
